Globalteer’s Peru Community is hosting a unique photography exhibition in Cusco from Monday 25th November to Friday 6thDecember. All of the photographs in the exhibition have been taken by children aged between six and 15 who attend Picaflor House, Globalteer’s project just outside Cusco.
Entitled “Por Nuestros Ojos”, which translates as “Through Our eyes”, the exhibition features scenes of everyday life in and around the village of Oropesa, the small Andean pueblo where the project is located. The exhibition is sponsored by The Giving Lens, an organisation that offers photography workshops around the globe, working alongside carefully selected local Non-Profit organizations.
How it happened
In May 2013 The Giving Lens visited Picaflor House, generously donated digital cameras to the project and taught the children the basics of digital photography. The children threw themselves into the new activity with great enthusiasm and the result of their work revealed some real talent. The exhibition is the culmination of skills the children learnt during The Giving Lens’ visit and many a photographic expedition around Oropesa since.
As Alexis Coram, one of the scouting team that visited Picaflor House on a pilot tour in 2012 said,
“I predict that some of [these children] will become photographers themselves ... they seem to be naturals.”
We think the quality of the photographs chosen for the exhibition proves that Alexis was spot on!

The location of the exhibition is close Cusco’s historical centre and beautiful Plaza de Armas so we are hoping to attract lots of tourists who will be able to buy prints and other photographic merchandise from the exhibition.
