Here is a little more information about our Globalteer staff in Medellin! This fantastic team can help you with whatever you might want to know about Medellin and Colombia, and will be there to ensure that your placement is meaningful, productive and everything that you are hoping for!

Elena Korchevska - Country Coordinator (Colombia), Globalteer

If you volunteer with our children’s project in Medellin Elena will be your number one contact. She will get in touch with you, usually by Skype, before you set off and will be there to show you the ropes and make sure your placement lives up to expectations during your time in Colombia. She also knows all the best places to hang out in your spare time in and around Medellin:

Lucia Ossa Acevedo, Founder and Managing Director - Colombia Kids Project

Lucia studied recreation, social and humanity science at Politecnico Colombiano Jaime Izasa Cadavid in Medellin. For many years she worked at the Charities Department of Comfama and managed Leadership Traning programmes at Inder, a local governmental sports organisation. In 2001 she founded the project with her husband Luis Fernando Cortes Aguirre to work with street children. Since its foundation the charity has been supported by El Colombiano - leading newspaper in Antioquia - and Fundacion Fraterna de Medellin, local charitable institution funded by leading companies and business of Medellin. 

Luis Fernando Cortes Aguirre, Founder and Legal Representative - Colombia Kids Project

Luis Fernando Cortes Aguirre studied law at the University of Medellin and educational psycology at CEIPA. For many years he worked at various educational departments of the Ministry od Education and National Institute for the Blind. Prior to founding the project he set up and managed various educational programmes for blind and partially blind children, and worked as a Managing Director for the National Cooperative of Blind Workers. 

Susana Pineda Posada, Volunteer Social Worker - Colombia Kids Project

Susana Pineda Posada has worked as a volunteer social worker since 2010. She is 21 and studies Social Science at one of the leading Colombian universities, Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana in Medellin. Susana works at the foundation on a part-time basis and is involved in many educational and recreational activities, and admin tasksa. She loves working with children, youngsters and their families, and to be involved in all everyday aspects of their lives.

Sandra Velez Jaramillo, Administration and Educational Coordinator - Colombia Kids Project

Sandra studied Pre-school Education at Universidad Luis Amigo en Medellin. She has been working as the Administration and Educational Coordinator since 2010. Sandra is also responsible for collecting donations from sponsors and managing the second-hand shop where these donations are sold to raise money for daily necessities of the project. 

Adriana Maria de la Rosa Burgos, Managing Director and Legal Representative - Colombia Kids Project

Adriana studied Business Administration and Marketing at Univercidad Nacional de Antioquia. For a number of years she worked as a Marketing Director for various insurance company. In March 2007 she founded and legally registered the project for abused and neglected children. Since the foundation date she has been working there as its Managing Director and Legal Representative.
