Globalteer is thrilled to be welcoming another new superstar to our team in Peru. Brit Laura Hoskins joined Globalteer in September 2014 as our second Admin and Marketing assistant in Cusco. But this is not the first time she has come to Peru to work with underprivileged communities. In fact, she spent a year working with children in the small mountain village of Oropesa in 2008 - which just happens to be the same village where Globalteer’s Peru Community project Picaflor House is based.
Originally from the sunny Southeast of England, Laura has a Master’s Degree in International Development and has also worked for a women’s development NGO in the UK and for a volunteer hosting NGO in northern Peru. Not surprisingly we think Laura is a wonderful asset to our multi-talented crew!
Laura's new role
Laura will help handling volunteer applications for both South America and Southeast Asia, and is also one of the lovely people who looks after volunteers who come to Cusco for a placement with the Peru Community or our Peru Dog Rescue projects, giving you your induction, town tour and generally making you feel at home!
With her knowledge of Cusco and of course Oropesa, her fluent Peruvian Spanish – and she is also trying to learn the indigenous Andean language Quechua – we think you’d be hard pushed to find a better person to welcome you on your placement in Peru.
Home is where the heart is...
Despite having travelled widely in Europe and Latin America, Laura’s heart belongs to Peru, as she put it,
“I totally fell in love with Peru when I first came here – the culture, the music, the food and the general way of life. I feel totally at home in Cusco and love spending weekends with my Peruvian friends and family, and getting off the beaten track. And although I love the city, I also love getting out to Oropesa to spend time in the countryside with my Peruvian godson Dani and his family.”
