Our staff and volunteers put the fun into fundraising in Cusco

Staff and volunteers at Globalteer’s Peru Community project enjoyed a day of socialising and beer tasting at the Sacred Valley Brewery last month to help raise over £200 (US$300) for Picaflor House Community project.

The craft brewery is located just an hour from Cusco in the beautiful Sacred Valley, and holds monthly fundraisers for local charities. Last month it was Picaflor House’s turn to participate and needless to say, staff and volunteers jumped at the opportunity!

Laura Hoskins, Picaflor House Project Coordinator, thoroughly enjoyed organising and attending the fundraiser.

“It was a wonderful opportunity to raise both awareness and money through a fun and social event. Importantly, we were also able to connect with a range of people who previously hadn’t heard of the vital work being done by Picaflor. All in all, it was a great success!”

Money was donated through beer sales and a raffle, and the money has already been earmarked to help purchase new stools and chairs for all of the classrooms.

Dan, one of Globalteer’s Picaflor House volunteers, was just one of the many people to attend and told us,

“The fundraiser at the brewery was a really rewarding experience. The crowd was receptive to fundraising, and a great amount of money was raised. I felt honoured to be a part of it!”

In addition to this special one-off event, volunteers and staff have also been enjoying participating in the weekly Picaflor run pub quiz in Cusco.

The pub quiz started mid last year as a weekly fundraiser, and has turned into a regular Thursday night social outing for expats, volunteers and travellers in Cusco. In fact, last week saw our biggest turn out of 35 people!

Not only does the quiz provide important funding to Picaflor, but the event is also a great way for volunteers to meet people, hang out with other volunteers, and test out those brain cells too.

Thank you to everyone – especially our volunteers – who has attended and supported these great events!

In addition to these events, Cusco is quickly heading into festival season,  – where colourful processions, music and markets fill the city – so there is going to be plenty of fun events for volunteers to explore and experience together in the coming months.
