Community Sports Outreach in Cambodia
We take sport to the villages where children live, bringing coaches, equipment and weekly sessions to rural Siem Reap.
Why Sport Needs to Reach Rural Villages
In rural Siem Reap, most children grow up without organised sport. Village schools are asked to teach physical education, but few have the equipment, space or trained coaches to do it. Many children also help at home from a young age, which leaves little time to simply play.
That is why our community sports outreach goes to the children rather than waiting for them to come to us. Our coaches travel to villages and partner schools across Siem Reap province, bringing equipment and regular sessions to communities with no sports facilities of their own.

What Does Our Outreach Cover?
Our outreach work is built around two simple ideas: take sport to where children live, and help local schools keep it going. It covers:
Weekly Village Sessions
Our coaches travel to villages across Siem Reap province with all the equipment they need, running weekly sessions for children who have nowhere else to play.
Partner Schools and Non-Profits
We work with local schools and non-profit organisations to run PE lessons and after-school clubs, teaching football and volleyball alongside positive social messages.

Bringing Sport to Communities Without Facilities
Rural schools are asked by the government to include sport in their curriculum, but most do not have the equipment or the know-how. Our sports outreach in Siem Reap helps close that gap. We:
- Bring the equipment to every session, so no child misses out for lack of a ball
- Run organised football and volleyball sessions led by trained local coaches
- Link the game to everyday life through sports for social impact activities
You can help directly by sponsoring a set of team shirts. £250 (US$300) covers 15 shirts printed with your logo, giving a village team something to be proud of.
How Do We Work With Each Community?
Lasting change only happens when the community is part of it. Working closely with teachers, families and local leaders helps us reach more children and build trust in every village we visit.
Working With Teachers
Our coaches work alongside village teachers, helping schools deliver the physical education they are asked to include in the curriculum.
Families and Local Leaders
We keep families and local leaders involved in what we do, which builds the trust that lets children take part week after week.
Children Shape the Programme
Children help shape the programme with their own ideas, so every session reflects what they want to play and learn.
Sports Festivals
Our sports festivals bring around 1,000 children from eight centres and schools together for a day that is all about taking part.
The Role of Volunteers in Outreach
Volunteers bring fresh energy to our village sessions, working alongside our local coaches for the benefit of every child. You don’t need a coaching qualification, and full training and support are provided.
Volunteers help our coaches run sessions in villages and partner schools, from the warm-up to the final whistle.
Volunteers plan and design new games that keep sessions fun and help children pick up new skills.
Volunteers help run special sessions on children’s rights, the environment, gender equality and fair play.
All volunteers follow Globalteer’s child protection standards and support our local staff rather than replace them, so every child stays safe.

Reaching More Children Every Year
We have been working with children in Cambodia for over 10 years, and our outreach is how the sports programme in Cambodia keeps growing. Today it reaches:
- More than 2,500 children
- 7 villages and 9 schools across Siem Reap province
- Around 25 young women aged 16 to 19 through Goals for Girls, who now help run the Globalteer Games
Every new village we reach means more children who get the chance to play, learn and grow through sport.
