This was a difficult quarter for Cambodia and for our sports programme. But as always, we are trying our best, and finding successes where we can. An increase in Covid-19 cases in the country led to the shutdown of many schools in the province, including ours and our state partners, and this has lasted for a good part of the last couple of months.
The Impacts of COVID-19 on Our Sports Programme
An Update from our Sports Project Manager, Sochet
Since the pandemic took over the world, it has not only cost many people their lives, but also changed everyone's lives; the way we live, learn, work, communicate, and travel has all been affected.
Globalteer recently celebrated a sports festival at its Helping Hands School in Cambodia. The team planned a day full of fun activities and which was met with a lot of enthusiasm from everyone in the village and beyond, including energetic volunteers to other humble guests. Kids enjoyed a day of sports and proud parents were able to cheer their children on!
With sports come the qualities like sportsmanship, focus! Values like team work, discipline! Skills like strategizing, coordination and that's exactly what Globalteers new sports program in Cambodia is all about. Now a noob like me would think sports in Cambodia is probably just like in every other country. But that's far from true, especially in the rural areas of the country!
It was my first time visiting Globalteers Helping Hands school located in the Pastar Char Village of Cambodia about 25km away from Siem Reap, where I could see the buzzing vibe of the city disappear into absolute calmness, solitude and fresh air!
