What Does Coach Training Cover?

Access to sport is limited across Siem Reap, and even more so in remote villages. Rural schools are asked by the government to include sport in their curriculum, but most do not have the equipment or the know-how. Our coach training prepares local coaches to run:

Football and Volleyball

Organised sessions that teach the skills and rules of the game, so every child gets the chance to play properly.

Warm-up and stretching icon

Physical Education

Lessons on warming up, stretching, how the body works and how to deal with common injuries like scrapes and bruises.

Children’s rights icon

Positive Social Messages

Activities that link the game to children’s rights, gender equality, fair play and other issues in children’s lives.

Safe, Supervised Sessions

Every session follows Globalteer’s child protection standards, so children can play and learn in a safe space.

Who Do We Train?

We train local sports coaches from Siem Reap and nearby provinces, people who know the communities we work in and love sharing sport with children. Our coaches run PE lessons and after-school clubs in local schools and non-profit organisations, teaching football and volleyball alongside positive social messages.

Training doesn’t stop with our coaches. Sports volunteers receive full training and support before they join sessions, and the young women of Goals for Girls learn to lead by helping to run the Globalteer Games.

What Is the Impact of Coach Training?

Trained local coaches make a difference that lasts long after a single session. Here is what quality coaching brings to rural communities:

How Can You Get Involved?

Training local coaches is one of the best ways to bring lasting sport to rural Cambodia, and there are several ways you can help:

  • Donate to help pay for coaches, sports equipment and weekly sessions in villages and schools
  • Become a sports volunteer and support our coaches in sessions, with full training provided
  • Sponsor a set of team shirts. £250 (US$300) covers 15 shirts printed with your logo

Every contribution helps our coaches reach more children with sports coaching in Siem Reap.

Meet Our Coaches

Our coaches are the heart of the programme. Here are two of the people leading sessions in Siem Reap. You can meet the whole team here.

Kong Lak, head sports coach at the Globalteer Sports Programme in Siem Reap

Kong Lak, Head Sports Coach

Kong Lak worked as a cook for two years, then spent seven years as a housekeeper at Angkor Hospital for Children before he was ready for a more challenging job. Today he is our head sports coach. He teaches not only the children but also aspiring coaches, helping to spread the work to other schools. His motivation is seeing the kids in his village get a real chance to show their talents.

Un Sokhim, sports coach at the Globalteer Sports Programme in Siem Reap

Un Sokhim, Sports Coach

Sokhim is originally from Preah Vihear province but now calls Siem Reap home. She has played sport all her life, especially football, competing at provincial level. She loves teaching her students and hopes to keep doing it for the rest of her life. When she isn’t coaching, she is studying law at university or, of course, playing football.

Help Us Train More Coaches

Every coach we train brings organised sport, physical education and positive social messages to more children in rural Siem Reap. Your support helps us reach more schools and villages.
