Who we are

Sport That Changes Children’s Lives

Globalteer is a non-profit organisation, registered in the UK as an NGO since 2006. Through the Globalteer Sport Programme, we bring sport to children in rural Cambodia who would otherwise not have it, and use it to empower them along the way.

On the pitch, children learn leadership, teamwork and fair play. Off it, they grow in confidence, face challenges, assert their rights and voice their opinions. Find out more about what we do or meet the team.

How Our Story Started

In rural Cambodia, many children grow up without the chance to play organised sport. Extreme poverty pushes them into adult responsibilities early, and access to sport and sporting equipment is very limited. Rural schools are asked by the government to include sport, but most lack the equipment and know-how to do it.

The Globalteer Sport Programme began in 2009 to change that. Our Cambodian coaches bring free football and volleyball sessions, physical education and the equipment to go with them to villages and schools across Siem Reap province. Sessions also carry lessons for life, on teamwork, fair play, children’s rights and gender equality, which children take home to their families.

Today the programme reaches more than 2,500 children in 7 villages and 9 schools. It has grown to include Goals for Girls, sports festivals, coach training and our annual Temple Run in Siem Reap, all built on one belief: sport lets kids be kids, and helps them grow in confidence along the way.
