The Problem
In Cambodia, government schools are actually free to children but operate half days. But, to attend school, students are expected to come with a school uniform and school supplies like pens and paper. However, in reality, most of the rural Cambodian population cannot afford them at all. Thus, many children continue to fail to get an education in Cambodia. This poverty reduces access to others, keeping poverty in these regions. Hence, help children in Cambodia by funding a system that will help bring education empowering children through community volunteering initiatives.
The Solution
To break the cycle of poverty, having the right education is crucial. In Cambodia, students need school uniforms and basic supplies to attend public school. Thus, Helping Hands provides these basics to students in our program, empowering children to attend the school. We also support their government education at Helping Hands for the other half of the day, creating meaningful volunteer opportunities in Cambodia that support long-term impact.
Our Mission
At Helping Hands, our goal is to help rural Cambodians end the cycle of poverty through accessibility to education. Therefore, by creating a locally staffed program, we provide free ongoing education and ensure that the children can attend state schools. This type of two-fold approach promotes not only their academic success but also prepares them for the adult world, so they are independent and resourceful. We believe education helps self-awareness, healthier habits, and the tools necessary to write the story of long-term independence and success. We do this by building programs for key focus areas: Education, Child Safety, Sports, Health Care and Nutrition, Social Care, Scholarships, Literacy, Women Empowerment, and Impact Stories.
Education
We educate 300+ students aged 4-20 years, 5 days a week (Monday-Friday). The main curriculum comprises the study of Khmer Literacy, Numeracy, English, Arts and Crafts, Sports, and Music. We also teach Health and Hygiene and Life Skills. Through the holistic approach, we are different from many other companies. At Helping Hands, we not only instill students with knowledge and skills as necessary for their needs, but we also provide the best chance to succeed in life, especially for those seeking to volunteer with children abroad.
Besides the on-site training that we offer, we also offer university scholarships to 10 young adults annually. To ensure that the kids continue their education and pursue their career choice, we fund their school fees, educational supplies, and emergency health facilities. In case any of the students would be interested in enrolling in vocational training, we are closely affiliated with Siem Reap hospitality and training schools. We help our students during the application process and constantly update them on their progress. Child Safety
Globalteer Child Protection Project is a policy, research, and classroom curriculum blend project. It consists of essential modules that deal with the main safety concerns of children. When we educate our children about how to stay safe, we recognize that our scope is limited and we do all we can to expand our promise to children outside of our programming. Sports
Temple Run is our annual fundraising event in Cambodia. It combines fitness, fun, and support for children.
Globalteer Sports Project introduces sports in rural settlements to children. Our activities are varied, including football and volleyball, and they are free. Integrating sports with physical education and social messages, children not only get new skills but also build confidence and learn to take on challenges, defend their rights, and express their views. Health Care & Nutrition
Choose ethical volunteering with Helping Hands Cambodia. You can join through Globalteer’s Cambodia projects. Volunteers help children in Cambodia in teaching, sports, and with daily childcare.
One of the components of our Health Programme is to serve our students a healthy and nutritious breakfast every morning. This breakfast has fresh vegetables produced in our onsite organic garden, and it is prepared according to the requirements of the World Food Program. Thus, a nutritious start forms an important part of educating children!
Medical Health and Hygiene
Our students are very well provided with weekly health/hygiene classes. They are advised to take care of their hands and teeth every day through washing and brushing. We provide our students with toothbrushes and toothpaste to support this, and we arrange dental care as needed. First aid is given on the school grounds, and we take the students to the free children's hospital in Siem Reap, where they might need more urgent attention. We also help our students and their families with the extra food bills involved during their stay at the hospital.

Social Care
Our amazing social workers build and nurture trust with our students and their families. Connecting with the community has allowed our team to work through challenges like low turnout so that students can continue attending.

Scholarships
Helping Hands provides scholarships to deserving students, removing financial barriers so they can continue their education. Each scholarship helps young adults to pursue university studies or vocational training, covering school fees, educational materials, and even emergency support when needed. By providing these opportunities, we help students achieve their academic goals, build expert skills, and create pathways toward self-sufficient and meaningful careers. Literacy

Literacy is the basis of education and lifelong learning. Our Literacy program in Cambodia focuses on skills in both Khmer and English to equip children with the confidence to learn at school and beyond. Also, we offer engaging lessons, books, and resources to make sure every child has the chance to learn quality literacy skills. Women Empowerment
Helping Hands lifts women in rural villages through education, vocational training, and leadership opportunities.
