Child Education Support at Helping Hands Cambodia

Education That Creates Opportunity

Education is one of the most effective ways to drive long-term change. Helping Hands supports children and young adults in Cambodia through structured learning programmes, practical skills training, and opportunities to build a brighter future. As a non-profit working with vulnerable children in Siem Reap, we provide education, nutrition, and protection—helping them develop strong foundations and reach their full potential.

What is our Education Program in Cambodia?

Helping Hands Cambodia currently supports over 350 students aged 4 to 20. Our programme runs five days a week outside of government school hours, offering both pre- and after-school support. It provides a stable and supportive environment where children living in poverty can learn and grow.
For many students, financial constraints and limited access to education present significant barriers. Our programme helps overcome these challenges by supporting the government school curriculum while also offering additional classes to broaden students’ knowledge and skills. In a safe and encouraging space, students are able to develop, engage, and reach their potential.

Core Subjects and Learning Areas

Our plan aims for balanced growth in academics, creativity, and physical health. It helps students build skills for studying, working, and living. Students learn through:

1.

Khmer literacy and math to strengthen reading, writing and basic math skills.

2.

English for communication, further learning and future employment.

3.

Arts and crafts to build creativity, fine motor skills and self-expression.

4.

Sports and music to build confidence, teamwork, discipline, and physical fitness.

Students also take part in community activities to build awareness and skills. This integrated approach keeps students engaged and supports personal growth and achievement.

How Do Life Skills, Health, and Well-being Support Students?

At Helping Hands, education is not just academic. It also provides the students with life skills, health education, and habits that will support them to live on their own and in a healthy way. Students build skills in:
  • Caring, decision-making, and problem-solving life skills
  • Managing obstacles and making good decisions/self-awareness
  • Good habits that lead to long-term independence and growth
This is a key component of child education support, preparing children for life beyond school.

How Do We Support Students Beyond School?

Helping Hands stays with learners as they progress through their education. We know that all young people have their goals and strengths, and we work to help them pursue these.

University Scholarships

Every year, Helping Hands offers university scholarships to 10 young people in recognition of their hard work and commitment to their education. The scholarship removes the very real financial obstacles to attending university and following their dream of studying.
The scholarship covers all the basic costs, including school fees and supplies, and emergency health care. It takes the burden off students so they can focus on education and achieve goals. Those wishing to sponsor a student can give to scholarships directly.

What Vocational Training Paths Are Available for Students?

Not every student can pursue higher education. For students looking for practical, skills-based careers, Helping Hands helps them access vocational training.
We partner with the hospitality and training schools of Siem Reap to help the students find their vocational path in relation to their interests and skills. This training can lead to steady employment and a stable livelihood.

Application Support and Ongoing Guidance

We offer personal support so students can move through their education and training smoothly, from start to finish. Our support covers:
  • Support on application requirements and paperwork
  • Help during the enrolment and admissions processes
  • Regular progress updates and follow-ups with students
  • Ongoing mentoring throughout studies or training
This support helps students in university or vocational training finish their studies with practical skills, confidence and clear goals.

Why Education Matters

Education is vital in building lasting, positive change for children and communities. It drives personal growth, financial security and a better future. Through education, we help:

Build confidence in children and young adults.

Give access to higher education and jobs.

Reduce poverty and lack of schooling.

Empower families and strengthen communities.

Students also benefit from community volunteering, giving them hands-on experience in teamwork and leadership.
