Coronavirus Update

May 2022

Coronavirus Update for Volunteers.

As countries around the globe begin re-opening their borders for international travel, we are more eager than ever to welcome back our volunteers and interns.

However, the health and safety of our volunteers and team members are our highest priority. We fully appreciate the complications and concerns that remain as we battle the ongoing pandemic.

At this time, only select countries have fully embraced international travelers. Many countries will accept international travelers adhering to stringent screening measures – a negative Covid-19 test, vaccination card, quarantine, proof of insurance, etc.. Unfortunately, most of Southeast Asia remain closed for international travel.

We are in constant contact with our projects to keep up to date on local situations and how it affects the project's operations. If there are any project closures or quarantine rules that directly affect volunteer placements, we are contacting affected volunteers directly.

When will volunteer placements resume?

Most of our projects are currently able to host volunteers. However, the ongoing travel restrictions prevent most volunteers from reaching the project site. As more of the population becomes vaccinated – domestic and global – we expect the restriction to ease or be lifted. The circumstances for each project and country vary so please email us for details on the specific project you’re interested in.

What to consider when making travel plans?

We understand you’re excited to travel and help make a positive impact in the world. Careful planning is key to a successful experience during these unprecedented times. Keeping in mind regulations will vary by country of origin and destination as well as subject to abrupt change, here are some things to consider when making travel arrangements:

  • What are the current regulations for exiting my home country?
  • What are the entry requirements for my destination – covid test, proof of insurance, proof of vaccination, quarantine, etc.?
  • Are there any flight restrictions to consider for layovers in a third country?
  • What are the entry requirements for returning to my home country?
  • How will my insurance be affected if I travel to a ‘high risk’ country?

Please note that optional volunteering is not considered ‘essential travel’ therefore Globalteer cannot provide you with documentation stating this, nor with visa sponsorship.

Stay current with the information!

As we have volunteers from all around the world and projects in several locations, we are unable to post about every update as it occurs. Please monitor updates and advice from your government’s travel advisory board. You should also check for updates on your destination, to see what the local requirements are.
We advise that all volunteers follow the up-to-date information and advice from their own countries' governments regarding safety while travelling abroad. Here are some links to government foreign travel advise.
