There are a myriad of factors that can impact the quality, availability, and accessibility of healthy and sustainable meals.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So, let\u2019s talk about food security, what it means, and why it\u2019s a human right.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Article 25 of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/en\/about-us\/universal-declaration-of-human-rights\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Universal Declaration of Human Rights<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(UDHR) proclaims, \u201cEveryone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">food,<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> clothing, housing\u2026\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Despite access to food being a fundamental human right, many structural issues, such as rising costs, poverty, and reliance on imports, can cause significant food security problems worldwide.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The United Nations reports that 51% of Peruvians experience food insecurity, making it the most food-insecure country in South America.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Consequently, the UN warns that approximately 16.6 million people throughout Peru do not have access to safe and nutritious food on a dependable basis.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div id=\"pgc-3907-1-1\"  class=\"panel-grid-cell\" ><div id=\"panel-3907-1-1-0\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_sow-image Summit defines food security as consistent access to healthy food to establish a quality life for everyone. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">To meet the food security criteria, food availability must be:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> 1) physically accessible<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> 2) affordable<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">3) contain adequate nutrition<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">4) stable<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For example, all four factors must exist simultaneously for someone to have food security.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div id=\"pg-3907-4\"  class=\"panel-grid panel-no-style\" ><div
