Donate Books for our Literacy Programme

One of our main initatives at Picaflor House is literacy. Many of our students are native Quechan speakers and don't learn Spanish until they start their first year of school at age 6. These kids are often left behind in the underfunded government school system as when the material is presented in a language they don't understand, all of their subjects suffer along with literacy.

Help us support our programme by donating books! The list below has been curated specifically to promote the following:

  1. Child Protection: Many of these books teaches them about their body and what their rights are. Promoting autonomy is fundamental so if a child is in a dangerous situation, they know what are safe and unsafe touches, and to tell an adult.
  2. Feminism: Machismo is a set of beliefs around masculity that is strongly present in rural areas of Peru. It teaches boys to be agressive and girls to be demure. These books have strong female leads that illustrate a life for women outside of domestic work.

Are the books you want to donate in English? We happily accept all books as they will be used for our English classes.
