Elephant & Bear Sanctuary (Wildlife Welfare) Projects

Globalteer supports ethical sanctuaries for rescued wildlife, especially for elephants and bears. The sanctuary is near Sen Monorom in Mondulkiri, eastern Cambodia, and covers a large forested area (1500 hectares).

Age requirements

Many volunteering work in Cambodia programmes have a minimum volunteer requirement of 18 years old. This is especially for wildlife and sanctuary work. But some projects will allow younger participants as long as they are accompanied by their guardians.

Skills or Experience Needed

Many positions require no specific qualifications. A loving heart, openness to learn and respect for local culture are usually more than enough. But, some roles should meet the requirements like:

• To interact with local more effectively, the official language of Cambodia is Khmer. You must know English (Speaking/Reading) to coordinate with staff and people. But if you are going for a teaching position, then your command of language should be good.
• Projects that involve children require a background check to ensure their safety.

These are often basic requirements and not much is needed if you have an open minded attitude.

Health & Safety guidelines

Volunteers should be in reasonable health. To volunteer for projects like Cambodia Clean Water, Elephant Sanctuary, Sports or food and farming, you need to be fit to enjoy. These jobs require working in hot, humid conditions and occasionally hiking in the heat, so you want to be physically fit.

For different projects, the fee structure is different, such as

• The Cambodia Clean Water Project costs around US $495 for a 1 to 12-week duration.
• Volunteering for rescued elephants at the Cambodia Elephant Sanctuary costs US $500 (2-12 weeks).
• The sports project and community volunteering programs require a submission of US $495 to cover all the required expenses of 1-12 weeks.

The fee usually covers your accommodation, food, support, and other program costs. For wildlife projects, it also helps pay for sanctuary upkeep, animal care, and rescue work.
