Most volunteers assist the local, English speaking teachers with English, arts and crafts, and maths and may also be asked to lead educational games and play. You will usually be working with local Khmer teachers or Western project staff.
Occasionally you will be asked to help with general project maintenance such as cleaning, tidying, decorating and gardening, all of which helps to maintain a happy and healthy atmosphere in which the children can feel safe, learn, and play.
NEW! Join a group volunteering trip
If you are travelling on your own but would like to volunteer with a group, then this project has just what you need - group volunteering trips. Your placement includes everything you get with our regular placements but you will join a friendly group of fellow volunteers on arrival. Group volunteering trips run on fixed dates to make life easier for everyone and we require a minimum of four volunteers to make it viable.
A group trip is the ideal option for volunteers who can't persuade their partner or a friend to come with them, and would rather share this unforgettable experience with a ready-made group of volunteers from around the world. Group volunteers can be from any country and any age provided you meet the project's minimum requirements. For full details click here

Daily volunteer schedule
Placements are normally for 2 to 12 weeks. One week placements may be available subject to project needs and extensions are sometimes possible.
You will be required to be available for 6 hours per day with 2 days free time per week on Saturday and Sunday. The earliest start is usually 8am and the latest finish 5pm, although exact timetables vary from school to school.
All of our partner projects break for lunch during which time you can prepare classes, go into town for lunch or to do some shopping, or just take advantage of the down time to relax at the project or back at the guesthouse!
If you are placed at one of our more remote projects, you will have the option to work some half days as getting back to town at lunch time is not practical.
Your specific placement will be decided shortly before arrival, depending upon the needs of our partner projects and your relevant skills and abilities.
Why the project needs volunteers
Despite the wealth of tourist money that enters Cambodia, very little of this money filters down to the average Cambodian. Malnutrition is common among Cambodian children and Cambodia has the highest under 5 mortality rate in the East Asia and Pacific region. Cambodia is among the poorest countries in the world.
Poverty in Cambodia is characterized by low income, poor nutritional status, low educational attainment, less access to health services, and less access to economic opportunities.
The projects we work with focus on education as the key to better health, nutrition, education and economic opportunity for all. With the support of volunteers and the project donation from your volunteer placement fee, we are helping responsible projects achieve long term change and giving the least fortunate a chance to live healthily, with dignity and with a future.
