Peru Wildlife Volunteer Stories
Here are a sample of experiences from previous volunteers at the Peru Wildlife Rainforest Sanctuary. You can also read about some of our volunteers' fundraising endeavours in our Volunteers' Fundraising Hall of Fame.
"My favourite thing about volunteering at the Peru Wildlife Sanctuary was EVERYTHING"Julia Quick is from the UK and volunteered at the Peru Wildlife Project in August 2015 for two weeks.
I chose Globalteer because they seemed to have a wealth of experience with placing volunteers, which as I had no idea at the time, was going to be really valuable for me!
Volunteering at the sanctuary
While at the sanctuary, I helped the team look after the animals in need that are brought in by the public and other people. This involved feeding, cleaning, helping to mend things, and getting lots of monkey cuddles!
My favourite thing about volunteering at the Peru Wildlife Sanctuary was EVERYTHING. The whole team was wonderful, and I was made to feel right at home from day one. Their passion and dedication for the animals they care for was wonderful to see and be around. Getting to interact with and care for animals was an experience I will treasure forever.
Connecting with the animals
The two baby monkeys I was looking after – Siggy and Ramone – really captured my heart. I formed a wonderful bond with them and shed a tear when I had to leave! They were beautiful animals that I spent some wonderful time with.
Recommendations for other volunteers
Plan to spend plenty of time there. If you only go for a short time you’ll regret it because you’ll want to stay for a lot lot longer!
