Globalteer short-listed for Innovations in Volunteering Award
Globalteer is thrilled to have been named as a finalist in the inaugural Go Abroad Innovations in International Education Awards.

We have been shortlisted along with four other finalists in the Innovative New Volunteering Program category of the awards for our Cambodia Community Project. More specifically, our nomination is for our partnership with two rural community projects near Siem Reap and the tourist attractions of Angkor Wat and other nearby temples and citadels of the ancient Khmer civilisation.

You can read more about the two new projects here.

Since working with the projects we have had some really positive feedback from volunteers who have had chance help support the project s as well as to see much more of Cambodia than just the normal tourist hotspots. As one of our volunteers said,

“Being at such a remote village we shared lunch with the teachers every day and we learnt so much about Cambodian culture, food and local life. From pumping water, to learning how to cook local cuisine, it was amazing. We became very close with the teachers, they were young like us (20 & 21), it was sad to leave them at the end of our 2 weeks there.”

The shortlist of five finalists was drawn up by a team of international educators who sifted through nominations looking for volunteer projects that really stood out as offering “a unique opportunity for student learning and engagement”. According to organisers we were selected for providing a volunteer programme that was “innovative within international education, offering international volunteers a unique opportunity to give back and get involved.”

Whilst all our programmes are focused primarily on what the volunteers can do for the communities we work with, we are of course delighted to have been recognised for providing an opportunity for volunteers to gain something valuable from their placements too!

Winners will be announced at the NAFSA International Educators Conference in San Diego, California at the end of May, so watch this space!
